Pottery class for workplaces

Pottery involves tactile touching and haptic experiences with clay. It allows us to relax and use part of our brain that is often not stimulated. Working with clay with your hands is known to have therapeutic effects.

Tactile contact is the first mode of communication that an infant learns. Simply by lightly touching the lump of clay, one becomes absorbed in his or her ability to transform, in the impact of his or her existence and presence on the here and now.

Our classes

We run a series of Japanese pottery class at your office after work.
It will be onece a week around 2 hours per session, minimum 4 weeks for 10 people. This is a great opportunity to learn basics of ceramics and you will walk away with beautifully glazed Japanese ceramics.

It’s perfect for team building and having fun after work. Especially for people who use too much computers to get back to basics!

Week1: Basics, hand building and wheel

You will learn basics of Japanese pottery, different techniques, how to coil clay and spin and throw. You will be building pots throughout the course.

Week2: Trimming

You lean to trim the pots you made in week1.
Trimming is an essential part of Japanese pottery and it shapes the pots in traditional Japanese form. Trimmed pots are dried and bisque fired at 800°C at the teacher’s studio.

Week3: Glazing

You will  lean to glaze the pots using specially imported natural Japanese glaze. Glazed ceramics will be dried and fired at 1250°C.

Week4 and beyond: Making and practice

You will keep creating, trimming, and glazing works you made in previous weeks improving skills and make more pots.

How it works:

Class will be held at your office from roughly 1830-2030 depending on your office hours.
We will come and set up the workshop in the room (such as a meeting room) at 1800.
We provide all equipment and materials.

Cost:
£20 from the employee and £20 from the company per session. Minimum 10 people 4weeks course, but can be longer. Fees will be invoiced to the company.
